Well it was a very chilly night for Football but teams kicked off at 6.30pm on 5 pitches to contest The Charity Cup, that had been held over from early January. There were some exciting games during the evening with 2 of the lower ranked teams ( Real Social Dad – Div 1 & Norfolk & Chance -Div 2 ) battling their way to the Semi Finals against 2 of the Premier League heavyweights – Pinnacle Insurance & The Hangovers. Unfortunately, no upsets with both Premier League teams putting 5 goals past the opposition with no reply. So the Final was a ding dong affair and made history after a 2-2 draw at full time….meaning a Penalty Shootout! First time in the history of the Cup! Hangovers took the first penalty, which was saved by the Pinnacle keeper! Following that, both sides found the net with some very hard hitting pens. The outcome…Pinnacle Insurance ( last years winners) won the shootout 3-2 and were Awarded The Charity Cup.

It’s a big night for Maroohydore FC and all the Supa Oldies Committee in organising the night and thanks must go to Stefan Bader , our Special Events Manager, for organising the night and especially the Draw. Kevin Bingham, for the initial set up and jobs during the night. David Loy, for riding ‘shotgun’ on the Draw and Results and Referee appointments….plus also Referreing the Final.

Big Thanks to Darryl ‘Dazza” Hayden and his Wife Julie for feeding us all and labouring at the BBQ for 4 hours! Thanks to Capital Party Hire for the P.A.

Plus a huge ‘Thanks’ to Donna & Garrad from the Maroochydore Club for running the bar all night!

Overall… a fantastic fun night for all the teams. (Roll on Summer!)

Our next Charity Cup will be held again at the end of this Season in around 9-10 weeks time.
